TO DO:

Obviously the brain damage suffered through repeated cranial trauma impaired my thinking back when this blog went live, otherwise I would have taken steps to make my life easier long before now. Regardless, I am remedying that soon but wanted to give the one or two people in the universe who visit this site advance notice: we’re moving!

Not too far, really, just over to the Drupal installation used in publishing my personal website, StuartLathrop.com. By combining the sites I’m hoping to achieve a few goals:

  1. Easier (and, hence, more frequent) maintenance
  2. Clearer identification with the publisher, a.k.a: me
  3. Optimize what little ad-revenue both sites generate

There won’t be any ‘Going Live!’ announcement or other fanfare; one day you’ll drop in and notice “Hey, somethings (different || missing || broken || weird … okay, so this last choice is redundant)”. But perhaps you will notice more frequent updates on this site, sharing the tidbits of tech I find that make our lives less painful!

Random Thoughts…

Three random(ish) thoughts on my mind tonight:

  1. The people behind the LifeLock® class action lawsuit are idiots. Yes, I’ll explain.
  2. The people behind Mint.com are awesome geniuses. ED (explanation ditto — no, not Viagra®…)
  3. The people I like in the tech field (myself included) seem destined to live in passionate poverty.

My busyness pays off!

You probably recognize the saying “Hard work often pays off after time, but laziness always pays off now”, which I’ve seen attributed to Larry Kersten. While I have admitted being prone to laziness, in this case it was being too busy that kept me from following-up on requests for my Equifax credit report.

Perhaps I’ll still have credit…

Well, as of this date I still haven’t received my Equifax credit report. If you have been following my earlier blog posts about LifeLock®, my initial online TransUnion experience and the phone calls that resolved my issues, you will know that I have been going about correcting inaccuracies in my credit bureau files. While I did receive a notification from Equifax that a fraud alert was now active on my credit file there I had not yet seen the same full report received from each of the other two reporting agencies.

Strange new spam

Once again the slow tide of spam began washing over my bloodyforehead (.com) last night. Perhaps someone was trying to cleanse my wounds… I have left one example in the comments thus far. Fortunately my changing systems has made the moderation of all this mess easier, so I don’t think I will suffer the same temptation to purge the Internet of my ramblings this time around. I´m sure some of you will be disappointed.

The power of human connections

This is post number three in the ongoing saga of my LifeLock®-motivated efforts to correct my credit reports, but this time I have almost all good news to report.

Strike One!

In my last post I noted some inaccuracies contained in a credit report sent from TransUnion. In the cover letter they assure the reader of how seriously they take the accuracy of your report, then state “To make it easier to request an investigation, you can now submit your request online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.” Great! I’m an online guy, so my preference is for using web-based tools whenever possible.

LifeLock®

While I’m not so bold as to publish my Social Security Number here in my blog, I did want to comment on the company behind the campaign and say “You need this service!” There is a big part of me that really wants to say “Why didn’t I think of this?”

Actually, I’ve already said that — multiple times, about multiple great ideas I came to a little late. Oh well, there are still a few more great ideas coming…

Anyhow, LifeLock® only really does what you could/should do yourself in monitoring and controlling your personal credit information, a point they observe many times in their documentation. The difference is they really do it — not the well meaning “Yeah, I’ve gotta do that…” that always precedes a life tragedy. LifeLock® takes care of the busy work, getting your most important work done along the way!

One good crash deserves another…

Over a month ago I reclaimed my tech blog while bored babysitting the rebuild of one client’s server. I moved it to a different hosting account —still on Verks.net, of course — using different software that I hope to find more flexible, and with all the usual aspirations of posting more often. After all: I get to see lots of technology blunders and the resulting cherries on an almost daily basis and, even if I weren’t so inspired by all of the other geeky things I want to do and make and play with, this alone should provide ample fodder to feed upon.

Welcome Back!

Well, it has taken too long but tonight’s head-banging server rebuild has at least allowed me ample time to get this blog back online. Perhaps the post-op review will make the first real return post, but first I am going to reload this site with all my original web log content. There are a few threads which I am wanting to revisit - especially when I next find myself spinning my wheels!
